Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery)

Procedure:

corrects eyelid changes as skin and fat pockets excess and muscle flaccidity by removing and fixing these tissues.

Duration:

1 to 2 hours.

Anesthesia:

local with sedation, general in some cases.

Side effects:

temporary discomfort, eyelids stretching sensation, swelling and bruises. Burning, itching and lack of lubrication in the eye. Excessive tearing and light sensitivity in the first few weeks.

Risks:

temporary blurred or double vision. Infection, bleeding. Swelling in eyelids corner. Dry eyes. Asymmetry, inadequate scarring, temporary difficulty to close the eyes. Eyelid traction, usually temporary.

Recovery:

reading in 2 to 3 days.

Return to work:

1 to 2 weeks.

Contact lenses wearing:

2 to 3 weeks.

Physical activities (sports):

3 weeks.

Disappearance of swelling and bruises:

several weeks.

Results:

several years, permanent in certain cases.
