Procedure:
surgeries for patients who have had great weight loss after surgery for obesity or diet. Conducted after the stabilization of weight loss (average 1.5 years after surgery). Removes excess tissue (skin and fat) resulting from the weight loss. Usually other surgeries such as abdominoplasty, mammoplasty and lipoplasty are also necessary.
Duration:
it depends on the combination of surgeries (up to 2 areas); 5 to 6 hours.
Anesthesia:
epidural with sedation or general.
Hospital admission:
minimum of 1 day, possibly longer.
Side effects:
temporary swelling and pain, trouble moving, skin numbing or hypersensitivity, bruises, tiredness for a few weeks.
Risks:
infection, suture dehiscence, hematoma, seroma (fluid accumulation), blood clots, pulmonary embolism, inadequate or abnormal scarring, skin necrosis (more in smokers).
Recovery:
return to work in 3 weeks.
Physical activities (sports):
6 to 8 weeks.
Driving:
2 weeks.
Sun Exposure:
2 months.
Results:
permanent since the weight is maintained, as well as physical activity and proper eating habits. Appear after 3 weeks, defined after 6 months.
